Student Projects

Students at Eads High School assisted the Kiowa County Public Library in a LSTA Grant that inventoried four historical cemeteries in Kiowa County including the Chivington Cemetery, France-Harker Cemetery, Galatea Cemetery, and Walter Scott Cemetery.

Business students at Eads High School developed the concept of "Sample Town" with the assistance of Colorado Preservation, Inc. and in conjunction with the establishment of the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site on April 28, 2007.  Sample Town consists of business plans developed by students that describe a workable business in a preserved historical building on Maine Street in Eads.

Original research from the classes of 2000 and 2001 who conducted interviews and researched a particular aspect of their local history. The results were published in the Kiowa County Press.

Kiowa County Veterans/Pioneers

Lesson Plan

Senior and Juniors from the Eads High School English and U.S. History classes teamed up with Mrs. Brenda Stoker's 4th Grade class to conduct original research about Kiowa County history. They studied the 20th century in order to undertand what the interview subjects had been through. More than twenty oral interviews were collected from Veterans, pioneers, unique citizens, and prominent civic leaders.
The Class of 2006 is working toward renovation of the 1947 Plains Theatre in order to open it back up as an Arts Center.

These projects were conducted by students in the newly developed Community Development course. The project includes 10 inventories about the community of Eads and Kiowa County including the folklife & culture, historical places, geological resources, habitat / wildlife resources, businesses, healthcare services, agricultural resources, housing resources, infrastructure, and recreation opportunities.
